The D4 armchair by Marcel Breuer (designed in 1926/27) is a masterpiece of the Bauhaus avant-garde, combining functional sophistication with timeless elegance. Originally known as the B4, it was later reclassified as the D4. Its special feature: the armchair is foldable, making it versatile for use in both private living spaces and modern office and studio environments.
The chrome-plated tubular steel frame ensures lightness and stability, while the seat and backrest are upholstered in robust fabric or leather. The clean lines, combined with the practical folding function, make the D4 a prime example of the Bauhaus principle of "form follows function."
The D4 is not only a piece of furniture, but also a piece of design history: It was presented at the legendary Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar in 1927 and today represents a radical reinterpretation of seating furniture in the 20th century.
