The Sandows chair with armrests by René Herbst is an avant-garde masterpiece from the late 1920s and is considered one of the boldest design icons of modernism. As with the armless model, elastic bands ("Sandows") form the seat and backrest, resting on a clearly structured, chrome-plated tubular steel frame.
The additional armrests significantly increase comfort while emphasizing the experimental nature of this design. The mix of industrial materials and architectural rigor makes the chair an expression of the progressive Bauhaus avant-garde.
